"The Role of Millennial
Youth in Preserving Indonesian Cultural Heritage in the 21st
Century”

The honorable judges,
The respectable teachers and parents,
The honorable audiences,
My dear friends, ladies and
gentlemen,
Assalamu’alaikum
Wr. Wb.
First
of all, let us say thanks to Allah, The Almighty, who has been giving us
blessing and guidance, so that we can gather in this great place. Salawat
and salam may peace be upon The Holy Prophet Muhammad SAW.
My
friends, ladies and gentlemen,
It
is a great opportunity for me to stand and deliver a speech in front of you
all. In this good occasion, I am here going to deliver a speech on “The Role of
Millennial Youth in Preserving Indonesian Cultural Heritage in the 21st
Century”
My
friends, ladies and gentlemen,
Our
country, Indonesia, is the largest island country in the world, with more than
seventeen islands. It also consists of hundreds of tribes or ethnic groups
which are spread from Sabang to Merauke, from Miangas to Rote Island. With this
many tribes or ethnicities, Indonesia has a lot of cultural heritage that come
from local wisdoms and values that grow and develop in every region in
Indonesia. They could become our country’s wealth.
My
friends, ladies and gentlemen,
With
the developing of science and technology in the 21st century, our
culture is vulnerable to influences from other nations that are not necessarily
compatible with our culture. These foreign cultural values can easily be
consumed by our nation, especially by children through the internet. As we know
that today internet has become our nation's daily consumption.
Now,
the question is, how can the negative impact of the development of science and
technology be minimized, or even eliminated? The answer is in the hands of youth.
My
friends, ladies and gentlemen,
Ir.
Soekarno, our first president, once said "Give me 10 youth, then I will
shake the world". This shows us that the role of youth is so important. In
this case, youth can be the front guard in maintaining and keeping our cultural
heritage. With all their talents and creativity, youth can enrich the culture
we have.
My
friends, ladies and gentlemen,
Therefore,
the main thing should be done is youth should be educated well with good
characters. So that they can filter anything they will do. Besides, they will
fill their life with positive things. Finally, they will do their best for
keeping the existence of our cultural heritage.
My
friends, ladies and gentlemen,
I
think that’s all of my speech. I do apologize for some mistakes in delivering
my speech. Thank you for kind attention.
